Western explorers pasted the name on the entire continental landmass, plus various island nations. Geographically, the Asian landmass is just across the Bering Strait from Alaska. The Suez Canal divides Asia from Africa. The straits of Bosporus and the Dardanelles separate Asia Minor from the Balkan Peninsula.
